Financing for the Taweelah A1 power and water project has been completed. Bidding is now underway for the Shuweihat project, which will be the third independent power and water project within the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Financing for the ambitious Taweelah A1 power and water project is reported to be almost finalized. In addition, plans for a third power and desalination plant at Shuweihat are underway. Its expected capacity is around 1,500 megawatts and 100 million gallons per day.

In the Middle East most public utility projects are financed by public funds, but the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is leading the way in encouraging private investment. This has begun with moves to privatize power generation and water desalination. It is hoped that the projects underway in Abu Dhabi will increase momentum for policy and law reforms across the region.
