Intellectual property is essential to Peru's economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic, which has significantly affected international trade. As such, the National Institute for the Defence of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property has encouraged the registration of collective trademarks which certify a product's collective ownership. The following parties may obtain a collective trademark:
Collective trademarks enable these parties to compete both nationally and internationally. According to the Directorate of Distinctive Signs, 3,938 applications for collective trademarks have been filed since 2019.
