On December 12 2017 Ontario Bill 160, the Strengthening Quality and Accountability for Patients Act 2017, received royal assent. Bill 160 enacts or amends 10 statutes,(1) including the Health Sector Payment Transparency Act 2017 (for further details please see "Ontario bill proposes mandatory disclosure of financial relationships"). The act will require payors – including manufacturers of pharmaceutical or medical devices – to report financial relationships with healthcare professionals and organisations, as well as other prescribed recipients. The Health Sector Payment Transparency Act 2017 will come into force on a day to be named by proclamation of the lieutenant governor.
