06 July 2006
The recently approved amendments to the Federal Law on Economic Competition were published in the Official Gazette on June 28 2006 and became effective on June 29 2006. New regulations to the law should be issued within 180 days of the enactment of the amendments and published before the end of the year.
The most significant amendments concern monopolistic practices, merger control and the commissions administrative procedure and leniency policy (for further details please see "Legislature Approves Competition Amendments").
The amendments do not apply to any procedure initiated by the Federal Competition Commission prior to June 29 2006; any illegal conduct that was pursued before this date will be penalized in accordance with the provisions of the law prior to the amendments.
